On Mason’s rigidity theorem

چکیده

Following an argument proposed by Mason, we prove that there are no algebraically special asymptotically simple vacuum space-times with a smooth, shear-free, geodesic congruence of principal null directions extending transversally to a cross-section of I . Our analysis leaves the door open for escaping this conclusion if the congruence is not smooth, or not transverse to I . One of the elements of the proof is a new rigidity theorem for the Trautman-Bondi mass.

m at h . A G ] 2 8 Ju n 20 07 Constructing ( almost ) rigid rings and a UFD having infinitely generated Derksen and Makar - Limanov invariant

An example is given of a UFD which has infinitely generated Derksen invariant. The ring is “almost rigid” meaning that the Derksen invariant is equal to the Makar-Limanov invariant. Techniques to show that a ring is (almost) rigid are discussed, among which is a generalization of Mason’s abc-theorem. AMS classification: 14R20, 13A50, 13N15.

Linear Weingarten hypersurfaces in a unit sphere

In this paper, by modifying Cheng-Yau$'$s technique to complete hypersurfaces in $S^{n+1}(1)$, we prove a rigidity theorem under the hypothesis of the mean curvature and the normalized scalar curvature being linearly related which improve the result of [H. Li, Hypersurfaces with constant scalar curvature in space forms, {em Math. Ann.} {305} (1996), 665--672].

Another generalization of Mason’s ABC-theorem

The well-known ABC-conjecture is generally formulated as follows: The ABC-conjecture. Consider the set S of triples (A, B, C) ∈ N 3 such that ABC = 0, gcd{A, B, C} = 1 and A + B = C Then for every ǫ > 0, there exists a constant K ǫ such that C ≤ K ǫ · R(ABC) 1+ǫ for all triples (A, B, C) ∈ S, where R(ABC) denotes the square-free part of the product ABC. The ABC-conjecture is studied in many pap...

Analysis of the modified MOS Wilson current mirror: a pedagogical exercise in signal flow graphs, Mason's gain rule, and driving-point impedance techniques

A pedagogical analysis of the modified MOS Wilson current mirror using signal flow graphs (SFGs), Mason’s gain rule, and driving-point impedance (DPI) techniques is presented as an exercise for undergraduate electrical engineering students learning to analyze transistor-level circuits with multiple-feedback loops. While students often prefer the SFG representation for single feedback loops, the...

Simulation of Balanced Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Devices Incorporating a Modified Four-port Mason’s Equivalent Circuit Model

In the present work, a four-port model for inter-digital transducer was developed. This model was modified from Mason’s equivalent circuit and was ideal for the simulation of balanced mode surface acoustic wave devices. Inheriting the virtues of Mason’s model, this model included the energy storage effect and was capable to fit arbitrary polarity configuration of transducers. Simulation results...
